Baby Lauren

Wife to husband, Rancito, of 4 years. Mother of one-year old daughter, Lauren, two mini wiener dogs that I refer to as Farkota, and one big mutt named Champ. This is my way of telling Lauren I have loved her since the day I saw her tiny bean body on the ultrasound screen.

It's Ladies Night!

This is my friend, Lauren. We've been buds for almost nine months now.

As Lauren and I waited for the guest bed sheets to dry last Friday, we shared a little pillow talk. She told me about her fears and dreams while Grandma blogged a few feet away. As far as I can tell, Lauren's worst fear is "bah buh baaaa baaaaa baaah!" and she dreams of one day becoming a "buh buh mah mah mah!" Oh, it just brings a tear to my eye every time we have these deep philosophical discussions.

Today was Lauren's nine month well-baby appointment. I always look forward to her check-ups, but this one was especially exciting because THERE WERE NO NEEDLES IN SIGHT AND NO SHOTS TO BE GIVEN! Yeah, baby.

Here is the low down on the baby stats:

Length: 27 inches, 25th percentile
She'll be taller than Gary Coleman and Danny Devito, but a just a smidge under Yao Ming (smidge being equal to about four feet).

Weight: 18lbs-4oz, 40th percentile
Well sweetheart, I'm glad to see that you don't quite have this problem yet, nor are you in danger of succumbing to the media's emphasis on looking like this, except female, of course. Although, I've read you were quite the beach baby today. You put on your swimsuit and played in the sprinkler. I read that you also had fun playing with sidewalk chalk, which is mommy code for "Lauren had fun eating chalk today."

Noggin circumference: 17.5," 55th percentile
Ooh, every engineering mother's dream: a kid with a huge cranium! Ok, so it's only bigger than 55% of the kids her age, but c'mon, look at her other stats. By the time she's two, she's going to look like this, but MUCH, MUCH prettier. I'm just strumming my fingers together in anticipation of all the knowledge we can cram into that capacious space.

So, for the time being, we'll just act our normal selves. My buddy, my pal, I love you lots.
