Baby Lauren

Wife to husband, Rancito, of 4 years. Mother of one-year old daughter, Lauren, two mini wiener dogs that I refer to as Farkota, and one big mutt named Champ. This is my way of telling Lauren I have loved her since the day I saw her tiny bean body on the ultrasound screen.

Spring Cleaning
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Today wasn't the best of days, so I thought I'd do a little blog spring cleaning. I'm still trying to figure a couple of things out, so bear with me. This blog template is courtesy of the very talented Ravasthi.

Yesterday was Lauren's double ear infection two week check-up. During our hour-long wait for the pediatrician, I educated Lauren on the wonders of swimmer's ear, tongue depressors, and band-aidnimals. I finally got Lauren going with a hearty belly laugh by giving her some belly fart blows when the doc walked in. Lauren's ears were still pink, so she's still not over the infection.

The doc was more concerned about her rattling and wheezing like an 80 year-old pack a day smoker. She took a reading of Lauren's pulse-ox: 93. Old re-runs of ER flashed through my mind, but the only significance of this number was that it was closer to 100 than 0. I could tell by the doc's reaction that 93 was not a passing grade. We've been giving Lauren Xopenex treatments for RSV for a couple of months now and we were using the doc's office loaner nebulizer. Needless to say, I walked out with our own brand spanking new insurance company provided nebulizer for our many future adventures in breathing treatments.

The nurse and I gave Lauren a breathing treatment after the pulse-ox reading and Lauren was able to go up to 97% as a result. It seems that 95 is the lower limit for readings we would like to see for tiny little ankle biters. It was a big deal to the medical staff, but in my case, ignorance was bliss. I didn't have time to hyperventilate and freak out, thinking my baby was going to die! But, she's fine. Thank goodness for the miracle of modern medicine. The bad news, however, is that the doc thinks Lauren is asthmatic now that RSV season is over.

I was so disheartened by the news. I immediately saw images I had fantasized about quickly fade: Lauren's 4'11" frame spiking a volleyball and making the winning soccer goal. Well, I suppose there's always golf. We'll deal with it like the troopers we are and find something to keep you active, sweetheart. I have faith in you. Sweet dreams, Punkinbutt.
