| Having a Whale of a Time |
Just got back today from an exciting weekend with the family. Cousin Brian turns six years old this week and he had an exciting birthday party on Saturday including a dinosaur treasure hunt and Scooby snack bone excavation led by experienced dinosaur tour guide, Grandma Miller. Guests were led on a walk-about wearing authentic plastic safari hats in search of dinosaur eggs along anaconda mountain, complete with 20 foot black drainage pipe that caused cousin Aaron to fall off said mountain. He's okay, folks.
Lauren had a spectacular time and received many gifts herself. Aunt Trina pulled through again with Lauren's very own sand bucket and tools and these very hip "Movie Stah" sunglasses that oh so elegantly match Lauren's swimsuit. Work it, girl.

After all the adults were played out from the water balloon fights and Batman Slip 'N' Slide, we came inside for a rousing game of, "Lauren, no that's not the potty training chair." Just kidding. Lauren may have to change her nickname to "Rock Stah" with all the time she spend admiring her older cousins' rocking chairs. Daddy helped out with the rocking part.

Lauren and cousin Matthew had fun playing in the kiddie pool outside, lapping up the dirt and grass that is inevitable at a 6 year-old's birthday party. Mommy and Daddy had fun cleaning up the absorbant beads covering Lauren's tummy when her diaper exploded from soaking up half the kiddie pool.
The young kiddos played nicely indoors. No fighting, I swear. In fact, little Matthew has taken up acting at his young age. Amazing, but true. In this scene, he is playing Shakespeare's Hamlet, Act II, Scene II:
Hark you, Guildenstern; and you too: at each ear a hearer: that great baby you see there is not yet out of his swaddling-clouts.
Observant little bugger, isn't he? He can walk, too - at 9 months. I only muttered, "Show off!" a few times when his parents were within hearing range. It's okay, Lauren is getting closer and closer by the day. Rancito observed her standing for a second by herself on Saturday. YEAH!

I talked Rancito into dropping me by the store so I could buy a nifty little $7 rainbow kiddie pool, complete with inflatable awning. Alas, they were all out. Instead, I opted for the $13 lifesize whale with operating blow hole. It's ginormous, but Lauren loves it. That's all that matters anyway, isn't it? That, and Rancito had the happiest first Father's Day ever spending it with his daughter. Happy Dad's Day, you wonderful man, you.

Call me Ishmael. Never mind, Lauren "Rock Star Smackdown Slamdunk" fits me better. |
