Baby Lauren

Wife to husband, Rancito, of 4 years. Mother of one-year old daughter, Lauren, two mini wiener dogs that I refer to as Farkota, and one big mutt named Champ. This is my way of telling Lauren I have loved her since the day I saw her tiny bean body on the ultrasound screen.

movie magic
wallace_gromit

I've had this wild hair lately to take Lauren to see a movie with my Blingo bling. It couldn't be just any movie, though, it had to be something that would keep Lauren's attention. The kid is just not interested in cartoons or TV for that matter UNLESS it's a commercial with some good music that gets her beep a'boppin.

Unfortunately, the only kid friendly movie out right now is "Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were Rabbit." Oscar buzz? I don't think so. Come on, the first movie I remember seeing in a theatre is "ET." It doesn't get any better than that, folks.

Lauren and I sauntered into the local movie theater this afternoon, handed over our Blingo bucks, and proceeded to load ourselves down with a football stadium sized bucket of artery clogging butter popcorn, nachos with artificial orange goop, Sour Patch Kids, and some Milk Duds. Guess who wanted the Milk Duds? (Hello, just kidding. I'm on a diet, here!)

We entered the theatre, and I sat down. I lifted Lauren into the seat next to me because in all of my goofy mommy fantasies, Lauren sits next to me with a big grin on her face sporting some 3D glasses. Don't ask.

Well, I soon learned that there must be some kind of weight minimum for movie seats because I was soon battling Seymour from "The Little Shop of Horrors" right there in the movies - oddly enough. I figured Lauren probably wouldn't be happy trying to watch her first movie folded up like a baby sandwich, so I sat her in my lap, recliner style.

The movie began, and I fed her animal crackers for awhile, until one fell on the ground. She had to have it, being the stubborn-just-like-me child she is and slithered out of my grasp. I quickly kicked the offending cookie into the row in front of me. Lauren was soon waddling up and down the row, placing cookies on the seat backs of the chairs in front of us and giggling out loud at completely inappropriate times. Soon she and I had enough fun battling each other: "No Lauren, don't go near the steps. No Lauren, don't pick up that mystery popcorn kernel off the floor. No Lauren, don't climb the movie screen." Thank goodness I chose an afternoon matinee thereby only offending about six other citizens in my community.

We made it more than halfway through the movie before leaving, so I suppose you could call it a success. From now on, though, I'm all about the DVD rentals. I think the next one I'll rent will be "ET." I love that little guy.
