Baby Lauren

Wife to husband, Rancito, of 4 years. Mother of one-year old daughter, Lauren, two mini wiener dogs that I refer to as Farkota, and one big mutt named Champ. This is my way of telling Lauren I have loved her since the day I saw her tiny bean body on the ultrasound screen.

aloha baby lauren
Today is a very special day for the Baby Lauren blog. It's our blirthday! One year ago today I made the decision to start a blog about my 6-month-old daughter. And who else but the queen of blog inspiration herself led me into this crazy little world. I mean, who could read Leta's 13-month newsletter, and not become inspired?

My first post was short and sweet, and it pretty much summed up what I've been trying to do this past year:

"I've been meaning to do this forever, but when you have a baby, time seems to fast forward exponentially. I have a darling little 6 mo old girl, and I think this blog will help me chronicle her spoils of childhood."

Mission accomplished.

I've been thinking about this post for a long time. Even the title had me logging in some serious brain time. You see, there are two meanings to the word "aloha." It means "hello" and it also means "goodbye."

It's time for the Baby Lauren blog to say, "Goodbye."

Technically, I think I've taken the term "baby" further than legally permitted. After all, my darling Lauren is no longer a baby, but a precious little girl. I think the reason I held out so long is because this blog has created such a great outlet for my newfound mommyhood. This blog taught me to laugh at myself because it makes it so much easier to cope with the spit-up, tantrums, and diaper blow-outs. And it taught me that there are so many people living outside my comfort zone that are going through the same thing, or are at least willing to stick around and laugh with me.

Thank you for that. Thank you all so much for that. Even the lurkers. I KNOW YOU'RE OUT THERE!

So why am I closing up shop? Well, Lauren isn't exactly the immobile slobber-faced little munchkin from this post. She needs me to be there for her 100%. And I need to focus more on my own health and well-being (read: mommy needs exercise). This blog is so much fun, but it takes a lot of commitment that I can't give to it right now.

Don't worry, this isn't the last of us. I'll still be adding pictures to my Flickr account, so now is the time to sign up for a free account and add me as a contact.

UPDATE: Mrtl comment reminded me that my Flickr photo stream has RSS and Atom feeds. You can subscribe to the feed in bloglines, and I'll check the Firefox Sage reader later. Let me know if you need help.

As a last request, I'm asking you to do something for Lauren. I've always intended for her to read her blog once she's old enough, so I'm asking all of you to leave a comment. It doesn't matter if it's your first visit or your 500th. Just tell Lauren, "Hi" or tell her about one of the posts you enjoyed. If you want to leave it anonymous, that's just fine with me.

Crayonz, out.
