| she's gone |
Like a shadow in the dark, like a ripple on a stream, I see her float across my mind like a picture in a dream.
Momma, I'll be just fine. They have Cheerios, right?
Rancito took Lauren to his parents this morning. I didn't go. I spend all day dreading that good-bye kiss. It's so hard for me to leave her. I knew it was for the best.
I'm okay, really. I have lots of projects in store for me this next week. Like painting rooms in our house. I can't imagine what it's like trying to paint a room with an infant in the house. I bet it's a lot like wandering into a bear's den or maybe even facial surgery. It's a medical fact that children are magnetically attracted to paint. Why else would the government warn about homes containing lead paint? How many lead paint chips did you eat as a child? C'mon, you know you did it.
So, I've got a tidy list of things to do in the interim.
1. Reply to all blog comments from the past week. Done! I think.
2. Decide on which shade of tan I am going to paint the .....a) Foyer .....b) Laundry room .....c) Kitchen .....d) Master bath
3. Decide if I'd rather pay somebody to paint said rooms.
4. Clean carpets.
5. Call Jupiter Jump rental places and cringe when I hear it's $100 for 4 hours.
6. Give myself a manicure and pedicure. (I think this should be #1) DONE!
7. Start reading "Smilla's Sense of Snow" before Lauren completely rips the bookjacket to shreds.
8. Give Kota a mani and pedi. Or at least a warm bath and some breath mints.
9. Write thank you notes
10. Begin a scrapbook for Lauren. Almost a year old, and I have no pages even started. Yee haw.
11. Weed, machete, mow, and brushog flower beds and garden I haven't kept up with all summer long.
12. Dream up new blog posts for the next two weeks when my muse isn't even here.
13. Go to the zoo and ride the train all by myself.
14. Take a nap. Scratch that - take LOTS of naps. DONE!
15. Wash/vacuum out the grocery getter.
16. EXERCISE, then eat chocolate.
I'm sure they'll be a lot more non-baby approved activities I'll be adding to the list. |
